Create your own custom Contour Cap- A classic and staple traditionally worn in England and Ireland. This cap is a flattering style for both men and women and can be styled in wool tweed, herringbone, check or a smooth solid cashmere for a timeless look. In this 4 hour workshop you will be lead through the process of cutting and sewing your flat cap “self”, canvas backing and lining, basting and sewing your cap, inserting a brim and sizing your hat with a gross grain band to a fit just right. Sample hats will be provided for you to try on and use as both inspiration and size guide.
Workshop includes the following:
- Hat pattern in your select size
- Brim mold
- Binding, Facing and Lining
Please note: Students are required to purchase their own core materials for this project. Please bring the following with you to the beginning of class:
3/4 yard of self, 3/4 yard of quality lining, a 100 metre spool of poly thread (Guttermans) to match, 1 yard of 1” grosgrain ribbon. Recycling fabric from an old garment is also a possibility i.e.. skirt or pants that are medium weight or heavier. Suggested materials are: cashmere, brocades, twills, herringbone, houndstooth, tweed etc.
