The Art and Sole Academy is the first shoemaking school in Canada to offer classes and workshops for those interested in learning the art of shoemaking. The Academy was founded by Canadian designer and shoemaker Jennifer Allison in 2014 with the goal in mind to make shoemaking accessible to a general audience.
The techniques taught at The Art and Sole Academy have been designed to substitute the industrial machinery with user friendly and affordable tools to provide students with the opportunity to continue creating on their own at home.
Whether you are looking for a new hobby, creative outlet or thinking of stepping into the industry we have a wide selection of workshops to suit all skill levels!
In addition to our scheduled workshops we also offer the following services:

Jennifer Allison: Founder/ Instructor
Jennifer fell into the footwear industry unexpectedly after studying Fashion Design at Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada. Upon graduation she has had the opportunity to live and work throughout Canada, United States, South America, Europe and Asia fine tuning her shoemaking skills and gaining industry experience designing for various companies such as ALDO, Abercrombie and Fitch, AWAMAKI and Pour La Victoire.
Her work has been featured in many publications such as Vogue, Harpers Bazaar, In Style, Elle and Flare Magazine to name a few and has been worn by many reputable icons such as Cameron Diaz, Anne Hathaway, Blake Lively and Rihanna.
After working in the industry for a handful of years Jennifer decided to move to Peru to volunteer as a Designer Resident in the Sacred Valley. Falling in love with the Peruvian way of life she stayed much longer than originally planned to work with the artisans on a full-time basis. Jennifer is currently in the process of collaborating with the Quechua Communities to develop her own fair trade Accessory line incorporating the rich Peruvian traditional textiles into a range of fashion products with a modern Canadian twist.
Dorothy: Shop Dog
This is Dorothy. She is a fabulous french bulldog who holds a very important role at The Art and Sole Academy.
She has been a shoe lover for as long as she can remember. Her favourite footwear designer is Jimmy Chew and loves the movie Wizard of Oz. She would do anything to get my paws on a pair of ruby slippers.
Dorothy loves meeting new people and giving free kisses and cuddles throughout each class. She spends the majority of her days chewing her bone and playing with her toys although every once in a while she will circulate to check out the progress on everyones project.
If you are interested in signing up for a class but feel uncomfortable with dogs please send us an email in advance at email@example.com and we will give her a day off.
